SUMMER CAMP: HOW WEBFLOW CREATED A VIRTUAL CAMP ADVENTURE

In the summer of 2021, Webflow transitioned their annual Dream Big Week summit online for employees across the world, engaging in virtual collaboration, learning sessions, and culture-building activities. Winning teams who completed all challenges were honored with a celebratory virtual flag ceremony, not to mention prizes and newly-earned clout amongst their peers.

Collaborating with Webflow’s Head of Engagement, Uncubed produced a custom virtual event bundle inspired by Webflow’s design oriented culture and Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom summer camp adventures.

Challenge #1: Rename Webflow Weekly

The first Dream Big Week challenge was to simply rename Webflow’s weekly newsletter, Webflow Weekly. Employees unexpectedly received their first instructional video via email, text, and Slack messages pointing to a private submission page.

This instructional video was produced using a selection of thematically appropriate props procured around the Catskills mountain region of New York State.

Challenge #2: Create a Virtual Background

The second challenge was a bit more challenging. Teams were tasked to design a virtual background using Webflow tools for the company all-hands meeting at Webflow.

In this scene, Grimur the camp counselor, a character inspired and voiced by a Webflow employee, instructs employees through a vintage radio on a nice summer day.

Challenge #3: Scavenger Hunt

The next Dream Big Week challenge was a scavenger hunt using participants mobile phones, cameras, and screenshot tools.

From there, participants uploaded their submissions to the Webflow portal, where teams were ranked on different categories. For this picnic scene, a local newt named Mr. Orange makes an unexpected cameo appearance.

Challenge #4: Explain Webflow to a Relative

Explaining Webflow to a relative happens to be a reoccurring struggle at Webflow, which is why we asked employees to record their favorite one liners and conversation starters using a digital voice recorder.

Employees shared how they would explain their job and product to their relatives. Uncubed transcribed all of the entires for data collection and combiled a “best of” reel.

Challenge #5: Congratulations!

(drumroll)……..Well done! Users who completed all challenges correctly and on time were greeted with a throwback visual of their 8-bit Webflow flag being raised.

Webflow’s Dream Big Summit Trailer

Working with Webflow’s creative team, Uncubed conceptualized five virtual challenges that employees can complete using their computers, smartphones, voice recorders, and even Webflow’s own online tools. These challenges were designed so that teams can explore alternative internal collaboration tools and content production they wouldn’t use day-to-day. By building virtual activities that don’t require in-office resources, teams were able to connect and grow through interactive digital experiences in a new era of work.
